Steve Irwin Died Today

News is popping up around the internet now that the "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin has died while making a documentary. The word is that his accidental death was caused by a sting ray injury to the left side of his chest. Professionals are guessing that the injury was near enough to the heart for the venom to disrupt his heart's function.

I loved Steve Irwin's work and presence. He touched people around the globe with his sincere enthusiasm for our world and the creatures living in it. Sitting here typing this, I really can't imagine the world without Steve Irwin. It is hard to be sure without knowing our whole human population, but I believe Steve was an original. His shoes are pretty much impossible to fill. I think maybe the best we can do is encourage the small parts of us that were most like him. Then maybe, just maybe, millions of us can begin to fill the gap left by the appropriate yet shocking events that have taken place today.

Terri, we love you and your children. Our hearts go out to you today, and every day that will follow. Bindi and Bob too, or maybe even especially. I will be searching for anything I can do to help. I know it sounds silly, but we related to Steve so deeply from the shows, it was almost like he was family. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

My deepest condolences,

Llana Grossman
